Exploring the art of living a sustainable coastal style.

It's Been Quite A...Blues Are Running...
Oh boy, time is ticking and the Holidays aren't waiting..
No matter what holiday you celebrate, many of us will have guests
arriving in a matter of days! Is your home ready?
Let me share a couple festive ideas from one of my very favorite
bloggers, Niki Brantmark My Scandinavian Home.
There is no denying that anything hand-made from nature is a winner!
The DN5 team is making pine needle stars as I write this...
simple yet so sophisticated.

Next we are stringing orange slices...

Got it all figured out as to who is sleeping where? How do the rooms look?
Quite often guest bedrooms are a collection of left over furniture.
Okay, we can help...
First give the room a focus beyond the obvious mattress & boxspring.
What do you have that could be used as a headboard?
Step two, add elegant linen bedding along with a few unique pillows.
Third, strategically position a few books on the bedside table.

No cookie cutter decor here!

Mixing and matching is what makes this all work together.
A little vintage + a little new adds up to a whole lot of "wow".

Don't listen to anyone, you can never have too many pillows!

This is our gift to you - all the sources for this very look!

Our very own Design No. Five 20" X 20" in XL Seaweed - Shop Pillows
Belgian linen bedding from Libeco Home Store - Santiago in white & Cisco shams
Chinese patterned lamps - The Furniture Consignment Gallery
Bedside table - Pottery Barn
Vintage pine doors used as the headboard - purchased at a yard sale
any doors new or old, painted or unpainted will work perfectly

Go Big and Go Bold in the dining room.  Here's the logic...
The formal dining room is typically used for the big dinners and sits idle for most of the day.
This is a 12 foot table made by Michel Ferrand - an exquisite piece of furniture but maintaining the scale with the table top decor is important.
We do remove these large pieces from the table for dinner, adding 10 to 12
candles in mismatched candlesticks lining the center of the table.
Let the place settings and food create the magic.
Plus we like to see whomever is sitting across the table.

Psst, it's a secret but we store an extra dining chair in the bathroom!!!!!

Yup that's right, we love the O&G Aquinnah Chair.

Add a Design No. Five Mermaid's Purse pillow in Cape Cod Grey

along with a  Thayer Design Balance Wool Basket

and you've got a super little vignette.

Last but certainly not least - the perfect setting for coffee or tea in the morning.  Light the fire and serve a few select parties and fruit around the coffee table.

So cozy and comfortable.

We've added a yard of Design No. Five linen fabric, painterly stripe in mariner's blue along with linen napkins out of our DN5 seaweed in mariner's blue.

Enjoy the Holidays!!!!!
