SEA change...our whale of a tale

Laughing Gull Hill’s story began by some counts as many as 280 years ago… and today LGH is my home. As they say in the industry, “good bones” and quite frankly that is all she had going for her when my husband, Phil and I purchased LGH in 2016. We closed on March 31st and what an April Fools Day we had! The goal was to turn this ramshackle Sea Captain’s house into our home, yet preserve absolutely as much as possible. I think we succeeded! Phil's blog Laughing Gull Hill Project chronicles our renovation and others in Cotuit.

Living on Cape Cod is about fun in the sun but equally important is ensuring our future ecology AND preserving our historic past. Design No. Five‘s studio is part of Laughing Gull Hill and sits atop the hill overlooking Cotuit Harbor. Cotuit was a major whaling port in the 1700s and known to sailors all over the world. The village was a robust commercial port that supported a bustling downtown with stores, services and eating holes.

Today the village is picture perfect with white picket fences and numerous restored historic homes. So many great stories – some actually true!
